Fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa has taken a leap into the world of fragrances with the launch of his first perfume, Alaïa, in collaboration with Beaute Prestige International. This scent draws inspiration from Alaïa’s childhood memories in Tunisia, like water splashing onto hot brick walls. He describes his perfume as “unreasonable” – something that almost stops time. In his words, he dreamed of it “like an archaeologist dreams of ancient statues lying at the bottom of the sea, sculptures of perfect bodies, as timeless as the beauty of today’s women.” The scent is all about contrasts: cool tones, like pink pepper, combined with rich, warm notes of musk. Created by perfumer Marie Salamagne, it opens with airy notes and pink pepper, followed by freesia and peony in the middle, and settles on a base of musk and animalistic tones.
